About Us

Why Cigarette Butts?

"In a world grappling with environmental challenges, the seemingly small cigarette butt has emerged as a significant contributor to pollution and ecological harm. Approximately 6.3 trillion cigarette butts are irresponsibly discarded globally each year, roughly 18 billion daily, making them the world's most littered waste. These butts contain non-biodegradable cellulose acetate, leaching toxic chemicals into soil and water, polluting up to 500 liters of oceanic water per butt and endangering marine life. At Project Leher, we confront this issue by reclaiming, detoxifying, and repurposing these butts for innovative, sustainable applications. Beyond pollution mitigation, our initiative emphasizes responsible waste management awareness. Through Project Leher, we seek to catalyze positive change, turning an environmental concern into an opportunity for lasting impact."

OUR VISION AND MISSION

Saving The World, One Cigarette Butt At a Time!

Established in 2021, Project Leher is dedicated to combating the environmental consequences of discarded cigarette butts, which amount to a staggering 6.5 trillion annually. Through a holistic approach encompassing collection, processing, and recycling, we engage diverse channels such as HoReCa and the Butt Brigade, led by rag pickers and women entrepreneurs who meticulously segregate waste into its recyclable components. Our innovative methods repurpose these components for various purposes, including packaging, fertilizers, and artisanal crafting, with the detoxified polymer blended with terracotta by skilled artisans. Collaborations with local authorities and Resident Welfare Associations amplify our awareness efforts, driving forward our vision of creating a cigarette-butt pollution-free ecosystem that supports sustainable consumption practices.
