About Us

Saving The World, One Ciggarette Butt At a Time!

Incepted in 2021, Project Leher's vision is to minimize the adverse effects of cigarette butts on the environment. Addressing the colossal issue of 6.5 trillion discarded cigarette butts annually, releasing thousands of toxins, Leher implements a comprehensive approach of collection, processing, and recycling. Channels include HoReCa, corporate offices, interactive bins, and the micro-level Butt Brigade. Rag pickers and women entrepreneurs segregate the waste into recyclable components: paper, tobacco, and cellulose acetate. The recycled paper packages our products, tobacco aids fertilizers, and the detoxified polymer, treated with our proprietary method via Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research, blends with terracotta for crafting by Uttam Nagar artisans. Leher products are accessible in retail, exhibitions, and corporate spaces. Collaborations with local authorities and Resident Welfare Associations bolster awareness efforts.

Why Ciggarette Butts?

"In a world grappling with environmental challenges, the seemingly small cigarette butt has emerged as a significant contributor to pollution and ecological harm. Approximately 6.3 trillion cigarette butts are irresponsibly discarded globally each year, roughly 18 billion daily, making them the world's most littered waste. These butts contain non-biodegradable cellulose acetate, leaching toxic chemicals into soil and water, polluting up to 500 liters of oceanic water per butt and endangering marine life. At Project Leher, we confront this issue by reclaiming, detoxifying, and repurposing these butts for innovative, sustainable applications. Beyond pollution mitigation, our initiative emphasizes responsible waste management awareness. Through Project Leher, we seek to catalyze positive change, turning an environmental concern into an opportunity for lasting impact."
